Most flight search requests for long-haul travel between October 31, 2022, and April 30, 2023, were for the Thai capital Bangkok. New York ranked second in the long-haul travel rankings, followed by Dubai and Phuket. This year, the journey pays off to the first Advent (21. to November 27). Thus one is approximately 31% more favorably on the way than on New Year’s Eve. The journey is worthwhile in the next year in the last April week (24. to April 30). The booking day, as well as the departure day, can also play a role in cost efficiency. It is most optimal to book flights to Bangkok on a Friday and start the trip on a Wednesday.

Vacation trip to New York
Many Austrians can be particularly happy this year about the probably most good travel time to New York – because it falls on the semester vacations of most of the federal states. It is worth booking a flight to London on a Tuesday with a departure on a Saturday. However, for those who prefer to fly to London next year, it is best to travel during the 2nd calendar week (January 9-15).

Visit Paris and Hamburg
The most cost-effective way to travel to Paris and Hamburg is on a Friday. On the other hand, you should book at the beginning of the week. In the city of love, one is this year around the first Advent (21. to November 27) at the cheapest on the way – 2023; however, at the beginning of the yearly. A trip to the Hanseatic city also pays off most at the beginning of next year. However, if you want to visit Hamburg this year, you should do so during the week of the annual lantern parades. Because between November 7 and 13, flight deals to Hamburg are the most cost-effective.

Don’t plan too far in advance.
Unfortunately, booking airline tickets far in advance does not always guarantee the best deal. When booking short-haul flights, the best value for money can be achieved no later than two months before departure. On the other hand, last-minute bookings of long-haul flights seem to be the best way to reduce costs: Flights to the four most popular long-haul destinations can be up to 36% cheaper if tickets are purchased around two weeks before the departure date.

Another helpful savings tip is to check flights from airports other than Vienna – flights from Innsbruck and Salzburg are often much more cost-efficient.
